House of the Dragon, the long-awaited prequel series to Game of Thrones, started yesterday. Attentive fans already know the end of the main character from the main series. Don’t worry: Here you can also find out spoiler-free how it came about. And are again warned about the content of the spoiler.

Probably no other series in the world has made the spoiler phenomenon as well known as “Game of Thrones”. Because some hardcore fans watched new episodes in the morning before work, the Monday small talk became a minefield for everyone else. After all, no other series stands for shocking twists like this. So it’s almost a bit ironic that the series has already revealed the end of the sequel “House of the Dragon” itself.

Because yesterday the time had finally come: The first episode of “House of the Dragon” opens a new chapter that tells the fate of House Targaryen almost 170 years before the main series. The first impression of the editors was quite positive (you can find our spoiler-free review here). But as many conflicts and characters as there were in the series, part of the ending was present in the main series. And it’s not about how the white walkers will be defeated or who will end up being king.

Unexpected spoilers

The big spoiler can already be found in season 3 of “Game of Thrones”. Vile King Joffrey leads his future wife Margaery Tyrell through his home, the Red Keep in King’s Landing. At one point he is particularly enthusiastic. And raves about the bloodthirsty end of a person. And that’s exactly what now plays an important role in the prequel.

Spoilers: There are two major spoilers for House of the Dragon. Please only continue reading if you want to know the ending of a character, its further circumstances and also details from the first episode.

bloody end

The deceased is none other than the main character of the first episode, the princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. And Joffrey reveals even more with his narration. In the first episode, Father Viserys was still desperately trying to finally get a male heir to the throne. After his son and wife both die in childbirth, he decides to declare Rhaenyra heir to the throne. And although she’s pompously crowned future queen in the final scene, thanks to Joffrey, viewers know this won’t be the end of the succession crisis.

Rhaenyra wasn’t killed by anyone, Joffrey rejoices as he tells her story: she was devoured by a dragon – her brother’s. Which, as far as the “House of the Dragon” viewers know, she does not yet have. So the scene not only reveals that Rhaenyra will actually ascend the throne, but also that she will later have a brother after all. And he tries to challenge her for the throne again.

By the way, this shouldn’t surprise the hardcore fans: they’ve known the story for a long time. As with “Game of Thrones”, the most important source of spoilers is not the series or leaks on the Internet. But the books of the creator George RR Martin: The history of the house of dragons has long been written.
