Hospice inaugurated in Germering – Fürstenfeldbruck

The sixth hospice in Upper Bavaria was inaugurated in Germering. The first rooms should be ready for occupancy in June. The district’s women’s shelter will also move into the building on Untere Bahnhofstrasse. State President Ilse Aigner (CSU) addressed this dual use and therefore called the multi-storey building a “place of security”. The building offers rooms for ten seriously ill patients and nine women and their children in two separate areas. It was erected in a construction period of about one and a half years.

Germering is now home to two other important district facilities. In her speech, Aigner described the city and its citizens as “real role models” who had created a “safe haven for the weakest”. The house is a sign that the citizens of the city are not turning a blind eye to the needs of their fellow human beings, said Aigner. She had particular praise for the community foundation. She crowned herself with the project, said the President of the State Parliament. Aigner recalled the presentation of the Citizens’ Prize last year. The community foundation for the dual project hospice and women’s shelter was one of five prizewinners.

house of life

Mayor Andreas Haas (CSU) took up Aigner’s words and called the city “happy” because it has a “House of Life” in its center. Here the seriously ill could spend the last days of their lives in dignity and women suffering from domestic violence could take new courage and take the first steps into a new life. Haas also expressly thanked his predecessor as mayor, Peter Braun (SPD). Braun is one of the founders of the Germeringer Hospizverein and is its chairman. The former mayor has been looking after an inpatient hospice in the city for many years.

The house is named after Max and Gabriele Strobl. Gabriele Strobl transferred the property on which the hospice and women’s shelter were built to the foundation. The construction of a hospice was the wish of Strobl and her deceased husband. All speakers thanked the founder, who, however, was unable to attend the inauguration ceremony.

calculation adhered to

Christian Ganslmeier, CEO of the community foundation, said the house was 95 percent complete. In mid-May it is to be handed over to the two tenants, the “Women help women” association and the Hospice Germering gGmbH. Both tenants equip their areas with the necessary furniture and prepare the rooms for use. Ganslmeier would have liked to have handed over the rooms to the tenants on Wednesday, but the construction period was delayed due to the corona pandemic. On the other hand, the budget was adhered to, Herbert Stark, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, said that the calculation of 10.4 million euros had not been exceeded.

With the opening of the hospice, there are 73 hospice places in Upper Bavaria. The ten places in Germering are intended for the seriously ill and dying from the districts of Fürstenfeldbruck, Dachau, Starnberg and Landsberg am Lech. Other Upper Bavarian hospices can be found in Polling, Ingolstadt, Bernau am Chiemsee and in Munich (there are two there).

For the guests, as the residents of a hospice are called by the nursing staff, single rooms are available, which are equipped with a separate sanitary room. In two other rooms there is the possibility that relatives of the dying can stay overnight. In addition, each room has a small balcony. There are also several lounges. The kitchen is on the first floor. The hospice also includes a garden and a terrace that cannot be overlooked.

anonymity given up

The new women’s shelter also has rooms with their own sanitary facilities. In the old one there is also a shared washroom. Another difference to the previous women’s shelter is the accessibility in the new building. The rooms are furnished in such a way that they are also suitable for mothers with several children. Boys and girls also have an outdoor play area.

An important issue in the new women’s shelter is safety. Because the address is no longer kept secret. For the women, this has the advantage that they no longer have to hide their place of residence, said Anja Blobner, manager of the “Women help women” association. According to Blobner, the new building is safe enough to allow anonymity to be given up. Video surveillance, an entrance lock and a transponder system as well as special windows are intended to protect the residents from a violent partner being able to enter the house. There is also a direct connection to a security service and there is intensive cooperation with the police.
