Hooray, the world is ending: luxury bunker with a swimming pool: the super-rich want to survive an apocalypse in such a relaxed manner

In his book “Survival of the Richest: Escape Fantasies of the Tech Billionaires” describes Author Douglas Rushkoff on how really rich people want to protect themselves from the end of the civilized world. Probably the most common answer: dive down. But what to do when the world’s major cities are on fire and humanity is in chaos? A handful of companies have an answer to that. Including Vivos.

Luxury bunker for the end times

The company welcomes prospects to its home page with the drastic question: “Where do you flee to when all hell breaks down on us?” Vivos has specialized in making the end of the world, if it happens, as luxurious as possible. The company operates several bunker systems worldwide, including one in Germany. But what about the apartments? And how much does a place on the ark cost?

In this gallery we present two of the currently three Vivos complexes. The largest project in terms of area is without a doubt “Vivos X-Point”, a collection of 575 ammunition storage sites from the Second World War. The dwellings stand in the middle of nowherenear Edgemont in South Dakota, USA.

Staying there is also the cheapest, the bunkers change hands from 45,000 US dollars. Disadvantage: You really only buy the bare concrete skeleton, every further action, including the expansion of the places of retreat, costs extra. But: If you buy today, you can live there tomorrow.

retreat in Thuringia

It’s a bit different in Germany. “Europa One” is in Rothenstein, right next to Jena. This is a former Soviet bunker that covers a combined area of 307,561 square meters and offers 23,000 square meters of living space.

In this complex, Vivos provides individual living areas that, with 232 square meters, offer enough space for up to 20 people. There are a total of 34 such plots, the price per unit is two million euros.

According to Vivos, access is only granted in emergencies. After its own section has been expanded as desired, the company locks the door and only opens the facility just before an enclosure. But then for several years, they say. Unlike the bunkers in South Dakota, “Europa One” can isolate itself from the outside world and provide for all residents for a long time.

Whether the company will keep its promises when push comes to shove remains to be seen. On paper, Vivos even agrees to pick you up from a nearby airport. In the midst of a global catastrophe, mind you. In this gallery you can see how life in the bunker is imagined.
