This is where married couples are drawn to this year

For many wedding couples, the Caribbean is “the place to be” to spend their honeymoon.

Honeymooners are giving their 2022 honeymoon an update. A survey shows what the ideal honeymoon could look like.

The travel euphoria is great, as is the desire for a honeymoon. Because in the past two years, the honeymoon – like most of the time the wedding itself – took place in a slimmed-down form at best. Now many couples want to catch up on their honeymoon. The online travel agency Expedia followed up with 1,000 adult Germans and compiled the plans, destinations and budgets of the married couple.

Honeymoon: More budget and more time for two

Although one or the other couple went on a small honeymoon trip despite the pandemic, 22 percent could not head for their dream destination because of Covid and had to rebook. Since that wasn’t really “fancy” for many, 19 percent are now planning a larger honeymoon than originally thought, according to the survey. The spouses also like to dig a little deeper into their pockets for this: 18 percent would like to spend more for the second attempt, 15 percent even pack a few extra days. On average, German couples plan to spend 4,081 euros on their honeymoon. For comparison: A conventional holiday for two people comes to 2,992 euros.

Like almost everything, the wedding outfit and the celebration itself are subject to current trends. While 20 years ago women still said “yes” in puff sleeves and blow-dried hair, you can see boho dresses and flower wreaths in many places today. A lot has also happened when it comes to gifts: the joy of sauce making and crystal salt shakers has long since fizzled out; Most bridal couples now want cash gifts for their honeymoon – more than half, according to Expedia.

These are the top destinations

31 percent are therefore definitely dependent on financial support for their honeymoon. After all, the pandemic has also put a strain on your wallet with short-time work and the like. Once the financing has been secured, the question naturally arises: Where to honeymoon? For 53 percent of those surveyed, the beach, sea and palm trees are essential for the right shot of romance. The Maldives are at the top with 34 percent. But the Caribbean (27 percent) and Hawaii (23 percent) are also among the top destinations among the honeymooners surveyed.

No wonder, after all, the Maldives have a lot to offer: Mirihi Island in the southern Ari Atoll, for example, was one of the first diving islands in the Maldives and is still one of the most beautiful. Over 1,500 animal species roam the depths of the ocean, including the manta ray, the third largest ray species in the world.

If you want it particularly cozy and private, you can even rent a sugar-sweet island in the Caribbean: “Sugarloaf” is named after the shape of a sugar loaf. The uninhabited island is off the northeast coast of Saint Patrick, belongs to Grenada and is therefore part of the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean. The neighboring island of Sandy Island, Green Island and Bird Island can only be reached by boat. Once arrived, vacationers can expect pure nature.

Use time together

In general, privacy is particularly important to the couples surveyed (49 percent). More than half (53 percent) value comfort and all-inclusive resorts with pools and saunas where there is enough time for two. 58 percent of couples like to enjoy it on a hot-air balloon ride, on boat tours, at a picnic or on a moonlight walk.

Either way, the time of the “minimoon” is over. At the honeymoon you can go all out again. Whether on the Maldives or Bali, in an all-inclusive hotel or in a holiday hut: wedding couples finally want to honeymoon again – and they do.
