Höllentalklamm: woman recovered dead – public prosecutor’s office determined

After the tidal wave in the Höllentalklamm on the Zugspitze, a dead woman was rescued from the water on Tuesday morning. This was announced by a police spokesman in Rosenheim. It is not certain whether it is one of the two missing people. But the assumption is obvious.

In the meantime, the Munich II public prosecutor’s office has intervened. “We have initiated preliminary investigations to check whether a criminal offense is in the room,” said the agency’s spokeswoman, Andrea Mayer, to the German press agency on Tuesday. The suspicion of negligent homicide is in the room. So far, however, the reviews have not been directed against specific persons.

Bridge torn away by tidal wave

Eight people were rescued from the gorge near Grainau in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district on Monday, largely uninjured. According to the police, the two last missing had stood on a wooden bridge over the Hammersbach in the gorge – the officials referred to eyewitnesses. The bridge was torn away by the tidal wave.

The now recovered woman was spotted lifeless in the water around 8:30 a.m. Rescue workers from the canyoning group from the mountain rescue service and the police then prepared their deployment and recovered the body from the water.

Any help came too late for the woman. The further investigations into the identity and the circumstances of death are carried out by officers of the criminal police.

The search for further missing persons continues

The large-scale search for at least one missing person should continue shortly. Dozens of helpers are on duty again. On bridges below the gorge they looked for clues such as clothing.

The gorge remains closed for the time being. It still has a lot of water.
