Summer time means camping time for many people. With these apps, camper van fans can find free parking spaces and spacious roads with certainty.

Lots of people go to campsites in the summer. Numerous newcomers to camping joined the trend during the corona pandemic – and are now confronted with classic camper problems such as roads that are too narrow or pitches that are occupied. Fortunately, there are numerous apps dedicated to the everyday problems of campers. Which smartphone applications should not be missing.

Is there anything left here?

Campers should not do without a pitch app. It doesn’t matter whether the vacation is planned well in advance or spontaneously. The handling is usually simple: select the target region, filter according to preferences and suitable campsites are displayed. In apps like “Camping.Info” (Android/iOS) includes a 360-degree view to preview the campsite. But you will be asked to pay, the German-language app costs 9.49 euros per year.

The “Promobil Stellplatz-Radar” (Android/iOS) and “park4night” (Android/iOS), but the free versions are limited. Anyone who needs or wants the full range of functions, for example to have map material available offline, pays between one and two euros per month or up to ten euros for the annual subscription. For this purpose, users are shown tens of thousands of parking spaces and can use photos to get an accurate picture of parking spaces and campsites.

The ADAC app also did well. Even if in “ADAC Camping / Stellplatz 2022” (Android/iOS) very few individual pitches are listed, it gives campers a good overview of the more than 20,000 listed pitches. However, there is no free version of the app, nor of the “ACSI CampingCard” (Android/iOS) or the “ACSI pitch guide” (Android/iOS), each of which is also available as a book and costs between three and ten euros.

Enough space and the right weather to be outside

On the other hand, if you want to make sure that your mobile home doesn’t get stuck on narrow streets, you can use the “Sygic Truck GPS Navigation” app (Android/iOS). It can be used free of charge for 14 days or unlimited for a one-time fee of 80 euros. The app reliably navigates campers (and truckers) through routes that can comfortably accommodate large vehicles. Campsites are also stored in the app. Last but not least, the “Tool Box” (Android), which uses the sensors built into smartphones: from a spirit level to a compass to a magnifying glass, the app contains 23 essential tools that can be useful during a camping holiday. Here, too, the premium version is chargeable.

Because being on the road with a motorhome means being outside, outdoor classics such as weather or hiking map apps are also an advantage. Anyone who wants to go on entire tours and only want to use the camper as an escort vehicle can plan hikes and excursions close to nature with apps such as “Komoot” (Android/iOS), “Bergfex” (Android/iOS) or “alpenvereinaktiv” (Android/iOS). Campers and hikers can find out what the weather will be like at “WetterOnline” (Android/iOS), “AccuWeather” (Android/iOS), “Wetter.de” (Android/iOS) and Co.
