Höhenkirchen – Harsh criticism of tree felling – district of Munich

The municipality of Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn has had to listen to a lot of criticism for the felling of some trees on Münchner Straße. Several residents expressed their dissatisfaction at the most recent municipal council meeting, where they criticized both the scope and the timing of the felling operation. Mayor Mindy Konwitschny (SPD) defended the community’s actions and referred to the “urgent warning of an expert that these trees pose a danger in storms”. Specifically, several spruces and two deciduous trees were felled, the stability of which was no longer guaranteed, according to the head of the town hall. She emphasized: “We are extremely reluctant to do this – especially during the bird protection season.” Konwitschny announced replacement plantings for all trees, which could not appease a local resident. She criticized that only two of the six spruces were sick. Meanwhile, Dorothee Stoewahse (Greens) suggested announcing such felling campaigns on the community’s website. And Otto Bußjäger (Independent Citizens) recommended speaking to the residents earlier – “then you won’t have the theatre”.
