Brass players, children’s choir, lots of mulled wine and a crowd from morning to early evening: until 2019 it was tradition that the Hohenbrunn Christmas market took place on the third Sunday of Advent on Pfarrer-Wenk-Platz in front of the town hall. The pandemic, like so many others over the past year, prevented this event. And in 2021 the Christmas market will only be available in an extremely reduced form and spread over several evenings, as the local council decided with 13 to 8 votes.
Stefan Straßmair (CSU) had already made it clear at the beginning of the debate that compromises had to be made: “I don’t see that there are children on the square and I let the Christmas carols sing,” said the mayor, but also emphasized that he would be open to a changed concept. On the part of the Hohenbrunn clubs, the reactions to the proposal to allow the market to take place on the whole without restrictions were mixed: “Some have said that they will be there if we can work out a hygiene concept, others not.” It is clear that it will not work without distance regulations, the town hall chief added.
Some local councils spoke out in favor of keeping the event as possible as it did before the 2020 failure despite Corona People would come out again, and it would be nice to meet again. I also think that the rush might not be that big because some people might have concerns. ” Pauline Miller (Bürgerforum) argued similarly: “If people came together, community life would get new energy, that is very important.”
As an alternative, Straßmair brought “winter magic” into play: “To set up a few stalls in front of the town hall on certain evenings in Advent”, i.e. only a few stalls selling mulled wine and bratwurst, and an offer for Christmas decorations. “That would be a compromise,” he said, convincing the majority of the committee. The administration will now work out a corresponding concept.
