The Venice Film Festival would not be itself without paparazzi. But they have little to do this year. George Clooney is in town, but not at the festival, only because he accompanied his wife Amal to an appointment – a good reason. But since a star-poor festival is taking place on the Lido to which he is loyal, one could still get the impression that he is staying nearby so that the paparazzi have something to do. He’s actually collecting money for those of his fellow actors who are on strike and who, unlike the big stars, can’t afford to walk out much longer. The action is being carried out quietly because the union fears that prominent, highly paid actors on the front lines of the strike will give the impression that this is about people who already have enough. So far they don’t. In the US, meanwhile, a Gallup poll found that 72 percent of Americans supported the strikers, a rare consensus.
