Hiccups in Munich: A bar where nobody has to pretend – Munich

2007 in the Munich district administration department: “wheel of fortune Is already taken. Find a different name for your bar. You have five minutes, otherwise you will have to make a new appointment.” Five minutes later, the new name was decided: hiccup.

A former Hungarian disco at Occamstraße 26 got its name and has since developed into one of the most popular student bars in Munich. With red walls, low ceilings and brown bar stools. There is a foosball table to the right of the entrance, a dart board is hanging on the wall, and further back there is a Star Wars flip machine. The heart of the room, however, is the bar. It is round in the middle, so that you can order from all sides – beer is served 360 degrees.

The decor hasn’t changed in the past 15 years, nor has the attitude of the owners. In her opinion, people don’t have to behave here – not like they did in P1. Behavior in the sense of “pretending”, the owner then clarifies again. It is important to her that everyone feels comfortable. do that in hiccup mostly students, but not only. The audience is very mixed, but the atmosphere is still relaxed and exuberant. There will be conversation across the tables and also across the groups of friends. A relaxed drinking experience.

Relaxed atmosphere and low prices

Of course, a real student pub not only needs a good atmosphere, but also low prices. And they are in hiccup actually comparatively moderate. The drinks menu is divided into beers, long drinks, non-alcoholic drinks, shots & schnapps and wines & sparkling wine. There is no food here. You pay 3.40 euros for half an Augustiner and 6.60 euros for a gin and tonic. That too is part of the attitude of the owners. The prices should remain affordable. Anytime Happy Hour is the motto here.

The pub is almost always full. This may also be due to its location near the Wedekind fountain, which is always lively and known for being lined with countless good bars. Although it is so close to the Münchner Freiheit, it is usually quite quiet in front of the bar. So if it gets too loud for you, you can get some fresh air outside.

The bar is known among students as a good choice for relaxed evenings. “It’s always relaxed and cheap here,” says a law student as he orders the next pint. The typical party songs play loudly in the background.
