Four days after the attack on the Iranian embassy compound in Syria, the head of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, spoke of a “turning point” with consequences. In a speech, the secretary general of the pro-Iranian Shiite organization said the Iranian response would inevitably come. Hezbollah is not afraid and is “well prepared” for any war. The militia has not yet used its strongest weapons.
Iran blamed arch-enemy Israel for the Damascus attack and vowed to retaliate. There was no comment from the Israeli side.
Regarding Hezbollah’s relationship with Iran, Nasrallah said: “Our relations and our support for Iran are a medal on our chest.” He delivered his speech on Quds Day, which was marked by anti-Israel demonstrations. Thousands of people gathered in Iran to remember the military killed in the airstrike on the Iranian embassy in Syria.
Regular Confrontations with Israel
On Monday, two brigadier generals and five other members of the powerful Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) were killed in an air strike on the Iranian embassy compound in the Syrian capital Damascus. According to the Iranian news agency Tasnim, six Syrian citizens were also killed.
The Revolutionary Guards are Iran’s elite armed forces and are considered more powerful than the conventional armed forces.
Since the beginning of the Gaza war after the massacre by the militant Islamist Hamas in Israel on October 7th, there have been repeated, sometimes deadly, confrontations between Israel’s army and Hezbollah.
