Hérault prefecture bans far-right gathering

The prefecture of Hérault indicated this Friday, in a press release, that it had taken the decision to ban a gathering of the far-right movement La Ligue du Midi. This gathering was to take place Saturday afternoon, in Montpellier, in “tribute to Thomas”, the boy stabbed to death, in Crépol, on the night of November 18 to 19.

“This call to demonstrate comes in a sensitive context linked to the violence committed during demonstrations organized by ultra-right activists in Romans-sur-Isère and Lyon,” underlines the Hérault prefecture. Through the words that are usually conveyed there and the violent actions that can result from them, this demonstration is likely to contribute to the fragmentation of national cohesion. »

“In view of these elements, and in order to prevent the occurrence of disturbances to public order”, the prefect, François-Xavier Lauch, took the decision to prohibit the gathering.
