Hérault: A former volunteer firefighter in prison for starting fires during his vacation with his in-laws

A former volunteer firefighter was imprisoned for starting fires in early August in Hérault. He faces 10 years in prison.

Suspected of being the cause of two fires in the Hérault, at the beginning of August, a former volunteer firefighter was remanded in custody according to an announcement from the public prosecutor of Béziers, Raphael Balland.

Aged 33, the arsonist would have been a volunteer firefighter in the Ardèche department between 2008 and 2011. He currently lives in Villeurbanne, in the Rhône.

On vacation with his in-laws in the Hérault, he was arrested on August 2, less than an hour after the start of a fire near Pézenas, which spread over 500 square meters, without touching the houses. . It is his suspicious behavior that would have intrigued the gendarmes of Pezenas. He would also have been seen in the afternoon near a first start of fire.

He denied being at the origin of this first fire but he admitted the facts on the second. According to the prosecution, he would regret his gesture, which he explains by excessive alcoholism at that time.

He will be tried on September 28 in Béziers for two fire starts and risks 10 years in prison.
