Gassen: With Corona school closures “sinned against children”

Were the long school closures actually necessary as a response to the pandemic? In retrospect, the head of the health insurance physicians expresses criticism – and calls for a better work-up.
The chairman of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, Andreas Gassen, welcomes the phasing out of all corona protection measures. At the same time, he called for the pandemic and any mistakes that might have been made to be dealt with. All government measures taken must now be examined closely for their effectiveness, he told the editorial network Germany (RND). “At the moment, however, I don’t see that this is being taken seriously.”
It is about lessons for the future, emphasized the doctor. It would then also show whether Germany really came through the pandemic better than other countries, as politicians are now portraying. He himself called the handling of children in this country worthy of criticism. “One thing moves me above all: we have sinned against our children by closing schools unnecessarily for a long time.”
Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) also said this week: “I think that the long school closures were not necessary.” At the beginning of March, the FDP called for a commission of inquiry from the Bundestag to review the Corona policy.
