Watch the video: Little star of the deep sea – researchers film the Dumbo octopus.

It is considered very rare and a small star of the deep sea: the Dumbo octopus. It was recently discovered by chance by researchers from the Ocean Exploration Trust, who were actually examining the seabed northwest of Hawaii when this specimen swam past the camera lens at a depth of around 1,700 meters. The name Dumbo comes from his resemblance to the title character from the Disney film of the same name. The dumbo octopuses have large elephant-ear-like fins that protrude from the mantle above the eye. The body length of these sea creatures is on average 20 to 30 centimeters.
