Harry’s autobiography hurts the royals
William and Kate lose popularity

After the publication of Prince Harry’s memoir, both his and brother William’s popularity plummeted.
Prince Harry (38) triggered a flood of headlines with the publication of his autobiography “Spare” on January 10th. The book had already caused a stir because it had been on the market in Spain too early. In his work, Harry attacks members of the royal family, in particular his brother Prince William (40), whom he accuses of, among other things, becoming violent in a 2019 dispute. In its first week, the book has sold nearly half a million copies in Harry’s native UK. Before “Spare”, Netflix released the documentary series “Harry & Meghan” in December, in which the Sussexes attacked the royals and the British press. What do Brits think of the royals now? According to a survey, neither the author nor his family benefited from the revelations.
This is how the royals perform in terms of popularity
Like the Daily Mail citing figures from the market research company Ipsos, the approval ratings for all royals have fallen since last December. Less than a quarter of Britons (23 percent) have a positive opinion of Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex (down seven percentage points). 61 percent are still positive about Prince William, but the British heir to the throne has lost eight percent compared to December last year. His wife Princess Kate (41) is at 60 percent (minus seven percentage points). Harry’s wife Duchess Meghan (41) has lost five percent and is at 19 percent.
King Charles III (74) recorded 51 percent (minus three), his wife Queen Consort Camilla (75) remained the same 38 percent and his sister Princess Anne (72) like Kate 60 percent (minus four points). “British people are still far more positive than negative about the King, the Prince and Princess of Wales and the Princess Royal and the royal family as a whole,” said Ipsos’ Kelly Beaver, despite the falling numbers. The online survey was conducted on 10-11 January among 1,000 UK adults aged 18-75.
