Hardening of penalties for refusing to comply during a traffic control

The government has decided to attack motorists who refuse the injunctions of the police. Jean Castex thus confirmed on Tuesday the strengthening of sanctions in the face of refusals to comply. These can now be two years imprisonment as well as an automatic suspension of the license and a seizure of the vehicle.

Stressing that there was a refusal to comply “every 30 minutes in France”, which constituted “a real subject”, the Prime Minister announced on the set of France 2 that the current sentence, one year d ‘imprisonment would be “doubled”. The strengthening of the fine of 7,500 euros is “still to be defined”, for their part indicated the services of the Prime Minister.

Jean Castex welcomes an “extremely concrete measure”

“A refusal to comply is generally a driver at the wheel of his vehicle and who is aggressive, even pushing, or even committing extremely serious acts against the police,” noted Jean Castex. In this context, “the driving license will be automatically suspended”, he added. “And as among the people who refuse, there are also many people who do not have a license, we will confiscate the vehicle,” he said, seeing “an extremely concrete measure”.
