Hape Kerkeling’s mini-series “Club Las Piranjas” is starting soon. However, anyone hoping for the entertainer to make a show comeback will be disappointed.

fans of Hape Kerkeling (58) has long since marked this date in red on his calendar: his mini-series “Club Las Piranjas” starts on October 19th as a sequel to his cult film of the same name from the 90s on RTL+. Anyone who secretly hopes that the 58-year-old will return to TV with one of his legendary shows will, however, be disappointed. “No. I’ve stopped doing it,” he explains in an interview with the news magazine “Stern”.

“Every time under extreme tension”

The entertainer revealed a few years ago that he never really felt comfortable on his TV shows. A statement that he worded somewhat misleadingly, as he now clarifies. “It’s like this: When a pilot starts a jumbo, he’s under adrenaline. But does he feel good about it? It was the same for me when I started one of my shows. I was under extreme tension every time.”

However, that doesn’t mean he was unhappy. He just didn’t want to have that feeling anymore. “I didn’t do well with it.” That’s not a problem for a series. “It’s not live, without an audience. Only the director and the team see me and my mistakes,” he continues.

See you again with entertainer Edwin

Kerkeling fans had to wait a long time for the series continuation of “Club Las Piranjas”. The final shot for the RTL+ series took place in July 2022. After filming in Mauritius, the final scenes for the four-part mini-series were shot near Cologne. In the sequel to the 1995 cult comedy of the same name, Kerkeling once again plays the leading role of the animator Edwin Öttel. Angelika Milster (71) is back as his colleague Biggi Jakobs, Judy Winter (79) as club director Dr. Renate Wenger.

New additions include Ben Münchow (32) as Edwin’s son Björn and Trang Le Hong (36) as Björn’s fiancée Lani. Cordula Stratmann (59), Benno Fürmann (51), Rick Kavanian (52) and Andrea Sawatzki (60) also play roles.

Entertainer Kerkeling actually withdrew completely from show business on the occasion of his 50th birthday in 2014. In 2019 he was back in front of the camera as an actor for “The Boandlkramer and Eternal Love” (2021), before the private broadcaster RTL announced the big TV comeback for 2022 in March 2021.
