A bomb from the Second World War has been found on the premises of a company in Hanover. Almost 3,300 residents have to leave their homes tonight for the defusing.
The Hanover fire brigade announced that the find in the Brink-Hafen district was a 250-kilogram aircraft bomb of English origin. It was discovered during exploratory work early Thursday afternoon. Emergency accommodation will be provided in the Herschel School for the affected residents.
Will probably only return at night
The evacuation started as planned at 6:30 p.m. and continues, the Hanover fire brigade announced on its Twitter channel. Free Üstra buses will be available to transport people to the collection point. These drive off the affected area regularly. The stops correspond to the regular bus stops:
- Yew path
- Hackethalstrasse (Hanover)
- Hackethalstrasse (Langenhagen)
- August-Bebel-Strasse (Langenhagen)
- old airport
Since people will probably only be able to return to their homes at night, they are asked to take important medication, baby food and suitable clothing with them.

Parts of Langenhagen are also in the evacuation radius, and according to the fire brigade, Vahrenwalder Strasse is now closed.
