Handball Bundesliga: Foxes win top game against Magdeburg

Füchse Berlin won their first home game of the season in the Handball Bundesliga and at the same time ended a series of horrors. On Wednesday evening (September 6th, 2023), the Berliners surprisingly won against Champions League winners SC Magdeburg with 31:26 (14:12).

Previously there had been seven bankruptcies in a row against the team from Saxony-Anhalt. The foxes also won their third league game. The best Berlin pitchers were Hans Lindberg and Jerry Tollbring, each with eight goals.

Heated game from the start

It was a hard-fought and heated game right from the start. The hosts got off to a better start and took a 3-1 lead. The foxes benefited above all from the saves by keeper Dejan Milosavljev. Among other things, the Serb held two seven meters. But in attack they allowed themselves too many ball losses or failed to Magdeburg keeper Nikola Portner. So Magdeburg equalized again.

Only shortly before the change of sides were the foxes able to pull away slightly by two goals. And the hosts came out of the dressing room better again. Especially at the Berlin cover, Magdeburg bit their teeth more and more often. In the 42nd minute, Jerry Tollbring gave his team a four-goal lead for the first time (21:17). The foxes now punished every mistake made by Magdeburg and pulled ahead ten minutes before the end (27:21). In the 54th minute, Magdeburg’s Janus Smarason saw the red card after a foul on Mathias Gidsel. After that, the Berliners confidently took the lead to the finish.

Erlangen beats BHC

TSV Hannover-Burgdorf became one of the beneficiaries of the setback for Magdeburg, which, despite losing its first point at 33:33 (16:14) at VfL Gummersbach, climbed to third place with 5:1 points ahead of MT Melsungen (4:0).

In the lower regions of the table, HC Erlangen got its first victory with a 28:27 (15:15) success in a duel between two previously pointless teams against Bergische HC. Like the new taillight BHC, Frisch Auf Göppingen is still without a sense of achievement after the 24:27 (11:15) at ThSV Eisenach.
