Hand penalty decides classic: FC Bayern extends the lead over BVB to four points

Lewandowski hits twice

That could be the preliminary decision again: FC Bayern Munich won the refreshingly fast top game in the Bundesliga and got rid of their only pursuer Borussia Dortmund for the time being. The Munich team won the direct duel in Westphalia thanks to a handheld video meter from double scorer Robert Lewandowski (78th) 3-2 (2-1) and are now four points ahead of their arch-rivals. The way to the tenth championship title in a row seems to be paved again.

Julian Brandt gave BVB an early lead in front of 15,000 spectators who sounded like 50,000 (5th). Lewandowski (9th) and Kingsley Coman (44th) turned the game around before the break. After the equalizer by Erling Haaland (48th), Lewandowski scored the victory for Munich with his 26th goal in the 25th competitive game against his ex-club. You have all won the last seven competitive games against BVB.

With wind and continuous rain, it was the hoped-for fast game with many goal scenes from the start. Which, however, was also favored by the sometimes shockingly weak defensives. BVB apparently started with a surprise tactic. Just the presence of Haaland, who was in the starting XI for the first time since October 19, caused a mess in the Munich defense. And so the hosts were actually rewarded with a dream start, even if their goal scorer was not directly involved. Three contacts after a referee ball, the ball came to Brandt, who played Alphonso Davies and scored unsustainable for Manuel Neuer.

The cheers only lasted exactly four minutes. Ex-Munich Mats Hummels shot at Thomas Müller in the center circle and also lost the air duel after the block, Lewandowski took over and pushed in ice cold. The Dortmund fans honored the goal with “Messi, Messi” shouts. The Argentine had just won the “Ballon d’Or” during the week against the Pole.

Now FC Bayern was on the trigger and another dropout from Dortmund almost brought the guest leadership. Emre Can, also an ex-Munich resident, played the ball across his own penalty area into Coman’s feet, but he missed (23). Then Haaland had his first big appearance: After a pass from Marco Reus, he did not allow Dayot Upamecano to catch up, but narrowly missed (28th).

Bayern led to the break in all important statistics – also in the most important one. And the 1: 2 was also favored by a Dortmund blackout. Raphael Guerreiro shot Hummels, the ball fell at Coman’s feet and he used the gift this time. But BVB was not yet beaten. Less than three minutes after the break, Haaland slipped the ball into the net to equalize.

An even more open exchange of blows developed. Both played relatively uninhibited to win. Now Borussia had the upper hand, but then came the shock: Brandt had to be treated for minutes after a collision with Upamecano. When he was carried off the field, however, he was conscious. The penalty was finally justified, Hummels had touched the ball with his elbow. But BVB coach Marco Rose was so angry that he saw yellow-red.
