Hamas-Israel War: Why is the city of Jenin in the West Bank the target of Israeli raids?

Fourteen Palestinians were killed in a day of fighting in Jenin on November 9, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. It is the deadliest Israeli raid in a long time, at least since 2005 when the UN began recording deaths from Israeli incursions into the West Bank.

Located in the northern West Bank, Jenin as a stronghold of armed groups is the symbol of the Palestinian struggle against Israel. The Jewish state considers it a “hub of terrorism”.

Created in 1953, the Jenin refugee camp houses 18,000 inhabitants. It is regularly the target of Israeli military incursions. In July, at least eight Palestinians lost their lives during an Israeli military raid. In September, three Palestinians were killed in similar conditions.
