7:38 a.m.: Toronto grocery store targeted by suspected anti-Semitic arson attack
A delicatessen in the Canadian metropolis whose owner is Jewish was targeted by an arson attack on Wednesday, according to Toronto police, who opened an investigation. Firefighters were called to control an indoor fire early Wednesday morning at the International Delicatessen Foods, located in the north of the city.
No one was injured, according to Toronto media. “Free Palestine” graffiti had been painted on the doors of the establishment.
“The Toronto Police Hate Crime Unit is investigating this incident as a hate crime,” Toronto Police said in a statement. “This is a criminal, violent, targeted, organized act, and it will receive the full attention of the Toronto Police Service,” said Staff Superintendent Pauline Gray.
