It is the largest state bailout for a German company in recent economic history: In a spectacular way, the federal government is helping the energy company Uniper, one of the largest groups in Germany in terms of sales behind Volkswagen. At an extraordinary general meeting, the shareholders now cleared the way for the extensive nationalization of the Düsseldorf company. According to estimates, the rescue could cost the state – and thus all taxpayers – more than 30 billion euros. That’s an enormous sum.
