Grünwald: Big band concert in the Römerschanz community center – district of Munich

Big band jazz inspired by the music of the legendary “Count Basie Orchestra” – swing fans should get their money’s worth on Friday, October 28, in the Römerschanz community center. Bernhard Ullrich, artistic director of the “Jazz in Grünwald” series, will lead his “Swing Orchestra” on the alto saxophone. With guest of honor Pete York on drums, the ensemble with its characteristically swinging sound will experience a prominent addition on this evening. The program in Grünwald includes Count Basie hits like “Cute”, “Lil’ Darlin'”, “Splanky” and “Shiny Stockings”.

The 18-strong Swing Orchestra is made up of well-known soloists from the German jazz scene, such as double bass player Garry Todd or Tizian Jost, professor for jazz piano at the Munich Music Academy, who takes over Count Basie’s part on the grand piano. Ullrich from Grünwald is a renowned jazz clarinetist and saxophonist and has been established as a bandleader, composer and arranger for many years.

Pete York, who made a name for himself as a drummer for the Spencer Davies Group in the 1960s and with the duo “Hardin & York” in the early 1970s, has lived in Germany for a long time and has had success with his own bands and collaborations, for example with Chris Barber , Klaus Doldinger or Helge Schneider. The concert starts at 7.30 p.m. Advance tickets are available online at www.gemeinde-gruenwald.de/kulturat Kiosk Urban, Auf der Eierwiese 1, or via the ticket hotline (Reservix) on telephone 01806/700 733.
