“Einkehr 2025” is the name of the new concept for the Grünwalder Einkehr, which is based heavily on its appearance in 1905. On Tuesday evening, the local council approved the plans, which, according to the building authority director Stefan Rothörl, are characterized by a “withdrawn architectural style”. More than a hundred years ago, several buildings formed a courtyard and were connected by an archway. In about four years, visitors to Grünwald will be greeted by a similar sight at the entrance to the town on Nördliche Münchner Straße.
This first impression was very important to the community, which is why after the inn was sold to a group of investors who wanted to tear it down and build residential buildings, a change ban was issued as soon as possible. In the meantime, said Mayor Jan Neusiedl (CSU) on Tuesday, the investors have “moved towards the community”.
They had to, because in May the state monument council came to the aid of the community, who declared the restaurant, together with the Heilig Blut chapel opposite, to be the “Ensemble Geiselgasteig”. This meant that the inn could no longer be demolished. Numerous celebrities from Grünwald had protested against the demolition, such as the widow of Joachim Fuchsberger and Alice Kessler from the Kessler twins.
The art minister intervenes
Bavaria’s Art Minister Bernd Sibler (CSU) saved her memories of many evenings in the Einkehr and said: “As the oldest built-up area in the Geiselgasteig district, the chapel and restaurant together shape the entrance to the village and welcome visitors and residents steeped in tradition. This historical image is now being saved as a memorial . “
So the architects rescheduled. The restaurant building is supplemented by two more. The back of the Einkehr, everything that has recently been added, will be removed so that it is the historic house again. The old Salettl next to it is also being torn down. Mainly apartments will be built in all three buildings, with commercial space on the front and on the street side. The concept inspires the local councils. Alexander Steininger (CSU), himself an architect, said: “This is one of the moments when you are happy to be able to work on the local council.” The change lock was the best that the community could do. “Respect for what has now come out of the new planning.”
“Quick action and good teamwork” also praised his parliamentary group colleague Uschi Kneidl. All the other groups were also very satisfied with the solution. A small suggestion for improvement from Achim Zeppenfeld (SPD) and Ingrid Reinhart (Greens) was simply not to build the building too close to the street in order to leave space for the bike path. Neusiedl promised to pass this on and had no doubt that it was possible. “We are at the very beginning of the planning.” However, the Grünwald celebrities are not facing further atmospheric evenings at the address of the Einkehr. Because a restaurant will no longer move in there. The commercial space will probably be used more by offices or shops.
