The US carmaker Ford wants to accelerate its electric offensive through a major corporate restructuring. The company announced on Wednesday that it would operate the business with battery-powered and connected vehicles in an independent division in the future. This division will be called Ford Model e. The traditional main business will be called Ford Blue in the future. The big US manufacturers Ford and General Motors have come under a lot of pressure to step up their business with electric cars due to the success of the pioneer Tesla. Ford wants to invest around five billion dollars in this area this year alone and will sell more than two million electric vehicles a year worldwide by 2026. That would correspond to around a third of the group’s global sales.
