The grocery discounter Lidl wants to expand further in Great Britain and create 4,000 more jobs in the country by the end of 2025. During the period, 1,100 branches are to be opened in the United Kingdom, according to a statement. The strong expansion of Lidl and Aldi has put traditional British retail chains such as Sainsbury’s and Tesco under great pressure in recent years. The retail group opened its first branch in Great Britain in 1994. Today, the British subsidiary Lidl GB has more than 880 branches, more than 25,000 employees and a market share of 6.2 percent. Unlike many other companies, Brexit does not prevent the retail chain from continuing to rely on the British market with its around 67 million consumers. Most recently, many UK supermarket chains have struggled to stock their shelves due to the lack of thousands of truck drivers to make deliveries.
