Greens in Berlin: Nina Stahr elected state chairwoman – Politics

The Berlin Greens have elected Bundestag member Nina Stahr as the new state chairwoman. When the party conference, which was canceled on Saturday, continued, she received a clear majority in the first round of voting on Wednesday evening. Stahr received 127 yes votes, eleven no votes and six abstentions. Together with the current parliamentary group leader Werner Graf, Stahr, who belongs to the Realo wing of the party, was chairwoman of the Berlin Greens from 2016 to 2021. One of their main tasks is to prevent the dispute within the regional association from escalating further. Philmon Ghirmai was up for election as co-state chairman for the left wing of the party on Wednesday evening. On Saturday, the party conference was canceled after the Realo wing’s candidate for the state chairmanship, Tanja Prinz, failed to receive a majority in three rounds of voting. Although the Greens’ statutes provide for the separation of party office and mandate, the 41-year-old Stahr wants to remain in the Bundestag. Both together should only be possible for a transitional period that ends in May at the latest, when the next state delegates’ conference is scheduled.
