Green nuclear reactors – EU law probably later – economy

The controversial EU law that aims to declare investments in nuclear and gas power plants as sustainable could be passed a little later than expected. Some observers in Brussels have assumed that the Commission will already adopt the so-called delegated act this Wednesday. But EU budget commissioner Johannes Hahn said on Tuesday that the agency would “need some time” to evaluate the opinions of experts and member states. They were allowed to submit comments on the draft until last Friday. Austrian Christian Democrat Hahn said he personally had his doubts as to whether investments in nuclear reactors really should be considered sustainable. The shares of nuclear power companies could then be found in eco-funds from 2023, whereby the fund companies must, according to the EU plans, clearly inform whether their products only contain paper from classic green companies or also from nuclear and gas companies. Austria’s government wants to sue the law.
