Great Wembanyama lifts Spurs to victory over Portland

Author of an exceptional match for Portland on the night of Thursday to Friday, Victor Wembanyama was San Antonio’s top scorer during Spurs victory against the Trail Blazers (105-118). “Wemby”, who only played twenty-four minutes, scored thirty points and grabbed six rebounds, thus offering the San Antonio franchise its fifth victory of the season.

He made nine out of fourteen shots, including two out of four attempts, and scored all his free throws (ten out of ten). The 19-year-old French giant also made no less than seven blocks and offered six assists during a one-sided match in favor of Spurs.

Figures for history

In a sport where statistics are king, he became the first player in NBA history to record thirty points and seven blocks in less than half an hour on the floor. He is also the second rookie in history to have at least thirty points, five rebounds, five assists and seven blocks in a game, after Spurs legend David Robinson in 1990, who was then 24 years old.

San Antonio, which hopes to rebuild its future team around Wembanyama, number 1 in the draft, ends a series of five defeats in a row, but still remains last in the Western Conference.
