Grasbrunn – In the farm shop, the soul also gets enough – District of Munich

One should do something good for the body so that the soul feels like living in it. That is the motto of Anna and Julia Grenzebach for their farm shop in Grasbrunn, where the guest will find many other wisdoms on colorful enamel signs while he is looking for breakfast, lunch menu (e.g. salmon with asparagus) and homemade cakes, to make room for the soul with relish. Because the farm shop is not only a shop, by the way the only one in the village in the east of Munich, but above all a café – and as such is particularly popular in the morning. Whether it’s a group of women, retired couples or whole families – at the “Moar” you meet a colorful audience from the country and the city.

The name “Beim Moar” is of course not an outdated Bavarian expression for the word Mohr, it goes back to the traditional farm name, with Moar standing for Meier. Here on the family farm, Anna Grenzebach opened the farm shop almost ten years ago as part of her thesis as a housekeeper. A “logical consequence”, as she says. “Our farm has always been a place for encounters and open doors. Friends and acquaintances were happy to stop by to enjoy Mama’s homemade cakes or jams while having a hearty chat.”

And the excursion to have breakfast also feels like a family visit: You are immediately spoken to on first-name terms, and in the pretty shop café with an old kitchen buffet and light wooden furniture you sit together as comfortably as in an alpine parlor – in summer you can also sit under the large parasols in the courtyard. As it should be, the guest will find white sausages with sweet mustard, pretzels and wheat beer at the top of the breakfast menu, as well as – as “Bavarian for beginners” – an Obazdn. But the offer is quite international: from the “gourmet breakfast” with salmon and Prosecco (15.90 euros) to the Italian breakfast with antipasti and tomato-mozzarella (14.90 euros) to pancakes with maple syrup (8.90 euros) and an American breakfast with sweet French toast, scrambled eggs with bacon, fruit salad and freshly squeezed orange juice (14.90 euros), which is a special recommendation at this point. A large mug of coffee or cappuccino from the Unterhachinger roastery Supremo goes well with everything.

If you value fitness and health, it is better to grab the “Vital Breakfast” for 12.90 euros with wholemeal rolls, homemade fruit spread and muesli or the “Super Bowl Muesli” with its topping of fresh berries, granola and chia seeds (6, 90 euros for the small portion). A special feature is the freshly roasted black bread with avocado, egg and optionally salmon, which lives up to its name “power bread” (13.90 euros).

All covers are not only a treat for the palate, but also a feast for the eyes, and the suppliers guarantee that the ingredients are always regional and seasonal – mostly small family businesses and known to the two bosses personally. The products in the farm shop are of course also regional and seasonal, whether sausage and ham from the Lamplhof near Pfaffenhofen, cheese from the Andechser Molkerei or the Stroblberg cheese dairy in the Bairer Winkel or vegetables from the Böck nursery in Neufarn. Breakfast should therefore ideally be combined with shopping. It’s just a shame that the farm shop is only open four days a week. Unfortunately, Oscar Wilde’s wisdom, which is written in large letters on the front of the café, can only be followed to a limited extent: “You should give in to temptations. Who knows if they will come back.”
