Gräfelfing – bike path to Freiham paved throughout – district of Munich

from

Annette Jäger, Graefelfing

Freiham and Gräfelfing are getting a little closer together for cyclists. The reason for this is the expansion of the path between Freihamer Allee in the new Munich district in the south-west and Freihamer Straße in the Würmtal municipality: now the piece on the Munich floor has been asphalted so that the path can be used all year round.

On the Gräfelfingen side, the cycle path had already been asphalted about two years ago up to the municipal boundary. On the other hand, the driveways to the motorway bridge and the section in the Munich city area remained a gravel road for a long time. The city now complied with the wish of the Gräfelfinger to have the section asphalted as well. However, the path, which is about one kilometer long, will not be illuminated. Graefelfing’s third mayor Martin Feldner (Green/Independent List) hopes that the attractive connection will counteract the increase in car traffic on Brunhamerstrasse and Aubinger Strasse.

The cycling working group headed by Feldner wants to continue the route as a high-speed cycle route, namely to the planned underground station in Martinsried. It was a challenge to create a safe crossing of Pasinger Straße, said Feldner. Such a possibility is conceivable at the level of the Friedenskirche. If the route is successful, cyclists could take the fastest route from Freiham to Martinsried and from there take the subway to Munich.

There are also plans to create a second cycle path connection between Freiham and Gräfelfing. It would lead from Sämannstraße in the Lochham district via the former Bundesbahn repair shop to Freiham. The route would make the Gräfelfingen industrial park easily accessible from Freiham. The path is already being planned on the Munich side, said Feldner. For this purpose, 60 meters of a forest path on Gräfelfinger Flur have to be asphalted. According to Feldner, land negotiations are necessary for this. The path should be illuminated on the short stretch through the forest.
