Government considering aid for those who drive to work

The introduction of a new fuel allowance for all those who are obliged to use their car to go to work will be proposed, but subject to income, announced the Minister of the Economy Bruno Le Maire, this Monday.

The government is working on “more generous compensation for all those who are forced to take their vehicle to go to work, once again whether they are employees, whether they are work-study”, said Bruno Le Maire on France Inter.

Discount at the pump extended until the end of the year

It would be paid “according to the level of income”, he added, without specifying the ceiling which could be fixed, leaving that to the parliamentary debate on the purchasing power package. This aid would therefore go further than the compensation dedicated to “high rollers”; that is to say who “do more than 12,000 km per year”, mentioned for a time by the government, because “there are plenty of people who do not do 12,000 km per year, who take their car to go to work and who can no longer make ends meet,” detailed Bruno Le Maire.

A discount of 18 cents per liter of fuel has already been applied at the pump for all motorists since April 1 to mitigate the impact of soaring oil prices, and the purchasing power law will propose to extend it until the end of August. The Minister of the Economy also proposed to the opposition to extend this aid until the end of the year.
