Spaniard Jon Rahm has won the legendary Masters in Augusta for the first time in his career, preventing a pro from the controversial LIV Tour from winning.

The 28-year-old golfer needed a total of 276 strokes and was 12 under par. Rahm was four strokes ahead of two professionals who played for the much-criticised LIV tour financed by Saudi Arabia and shared second place: the two Americans Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka. On the final round, Koepka lost a two-stroke lead on Rahm and ended the tournament with a round of 75. Three-time Masters champion Mickelson came up with a round of 65. After the US Open 2021, Augusta Rahm’s success was his second win at a major.

Tiger Woods retired after seven holes of the third round due to foot pain. The superstar had previously made the cut for the 23rd time in a row in Augusta, setting a record. Because of the weather-related interruptions, the usual schedule in Augusta had been thrown into disarray. The pros only finished the third round on Sunday morning.
