Crowd favorite Marcel Siem has a good chance of winning the Porsche European Open in Winsen/Luhe, Lower Saxony. The 42-year-old golf pro from Ratingen improved to seventh place after a round of 70 with 214 strokes and is only one stroke behind the leading sextet.

“It doesn’t really matter whether you’re one in front or two behind. On Sunday you win tournaments or you lose tournaments,” said Siem at the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) event, which is worth two million US dollars, just outside of Hamburg .

A hit in the water on the 15th lane cost Siem an even better place. “It was the only really bad shot in two days,” said Siem, who won a tournament in India in February. The German fans give the Ratingen strong support. “Goosebumps come up, which doesn’t make things any easier,” added Siem.

Maximilian Kieffer, who started the third round first, had a slightly worse day. After a 75, the 32-year-old from Düsseldorf dropped back to shared eighth place with 215 strokes.
