First pool shoot, then storm: Heidi Klum’s model show falls completely into the water

During the first shoot of the new GNTM season, Heidi Klum takes pictures of her candidates herself. The decision is less smooth: heavy rain and gusty winds cause a premature termination for the first time.

What happened?

Unlike in previous years, the 18th GNTM season started directly in Los Angeles. This also means that the candidates immediately move into the model villa. There the numerous gifts are examined, the pool tested and the rooms distributed. A dispute about reserved beds quickly breaks out between Elsa and Emilia, in which Elsa ultimately gets the short end of the stick. A little later, the 18-year-old is the focus of another discussion. Elsa presents her coat made of real wild fox to several candidates and explains that she cannot do without fur. “Unfortunately I can’t wear this faux fur because I don’t like it.” On the objection that an animal had to die for it, she says: “I didn’t kill it. Of course someone did. But I didn’t kill it with my own hands. That’s important to me.” The hairdresser had already surprised in the first episode with her statement that she spent up to 1500 euros a month on new clothes.

In a first shoot, the candidates have to prove themselves to Heidi Klum, who presses the shutter release herself as a photographer. Two young models compete against each other at the pool of the villa, they had to do their own make-up and style beforehand. Klum judges who, in her eyes, has mastered the task better and sends the winner straight to the next round.

The decision on Venice Beach literally falls into the water. Instead of walking down a catwalk, the candidates have to flee from gusts of wind and heavy rain and are quickly taken to safety in cars. Heidi Klum is also powerless against the weather: the second GNTM episode has to be canceled prematurely and without a final presentation.

The guest judge

Heidi Klum emphasizes how long she wanted to have her as a guest judge on the show, now she’s here: the Swedish supermodel Elsa Hosk. The 34-year-old floats in the iconic green Versace gown that Jennifer Lopez wore to the 2000 Grammy Awards. She is supposed to teach the candidates how to walk the catwalk as casually as possible in a long, flowing dress. For namesake Elsa, this turns out to be a problem. She complains that her dress is too long and her shoes are too big. The 18-year-old is visibly listless and annoyed, but supermodel Elsa Hosk patiently tries to give her tips. But Elsa finds it difficult to implement because she hardly understands English.
