Gmund am Tegernsee: Drivers overtake the police in an illegal car race – Bavaria

A patrol in Upper Bavaria became aware of an illegal car race because they were overtaken by the two participating vehicles at 140 kilometers per hour. The two drivers did not respond to the use of blue lights or the siren, the police said. Accordingly, the car driver and the driver of the van were traveling at 120 to 150 kilometers per hour near Gmund am Tegernsee (Miesbach district).

It was only when traffic was backed up that the patrol was able to stop the two vehicles. The 23-year-old driver was suspected of being on drugs. The 28-year-old driver of the van underwent an alcohol test. Blood was taken from both of them and their driving licenses were confiscated by police.

The 23-year-old’s car was seized and handed over to an expert. According to the police, it had significant technical defects and had an operational front flasher, as is otherwise installed in civilian police vehicles. The two men face charges including involvement in an illegal street race, drunk driving and being under the influence of drugs.
