On a “punchy” final in Melfi which corresponded to him to perfection, Michael Matthews did not fail by winning in a sprint in a small committee the 3rd stage of the Tour of Italy. The Australian from Jayco AlUla beat the other two favorites of the day, Mads Pedersen (Trek-Segafredo) and Kaden Groves (Alpecin-Deceuninck), to claim the 40th victory of his career, the third on the Giro. Overall, Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-Quick Step) benefited from the intermediate sprint to consolidate his pink jersey.
