Gillamoos: SPD sends Kevin Kühnert to Bütt – Bavaria

The Bavarian SPD sent Secretary General Kevin Kühnert into the race as the main speaker at the Gillamoos in early September. “He appreciates Bavaria very much and speaks politically plain language,” said country chief Florian von Brunn of the dpa in Munich. He is very pleased that Kühnert has agreed. Brunn will also speak at the political morning pint at the folk festival on September 5th. The CSU had already announced a few weeks ago that, in addition to party leader Markus Söder, North Rhine-Westphalia’s Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst would also speak in their marquee, with the Greens expecting Anton Hofreiter, a member of the Bundestag, to be the main speaker. The FDP recently announced that it wanted to send Martin Hagen into the race; among the Free Voters, party leader Hubert Aiwanger has been doing this for years. Linke and AfD have not yet revealed who they expect to be the keynote speaker. The Gillamoos folk festival, which always takes place at the beginning of September, has a more than 700-year tradition in the Kelheim district in Lower Bavaria and is known nationwide for the political speeches on the last day of the festival. Because of the corona pandemic, the event could not take place in the usual marquee atmosphere in recent years, and some parties switched to formats in which the speeches were broadcast on the Internet.
