While the first works council election in 2022 took place before the plant opened, around 12,500 people now work there. At the last works council election in 2022, Tesla still had around 2,300 employees in Grünheide. Accordingly, the works council is now more than twice as large as it was after the first election with 19 members.
IG Metall demands collective agreement, Tesla wants to increase wages
IG Metall is demanding better working conditions for employees and binding them to a collective agreement. Tesla has always refused this. The company owned by US billionaire Elon Musk already sees many other demands, such as occupational safety or better conditions for temporary workers, as being implemented.
Musk has repeatedly rejected calls for his nearly 130,000 employees worldwide to unionize. According to plant manager André Thierig, the company in Grünheide wants to offer annual wage changes.
