On the night of January 6, 2019, in Lyon, Alann Biolley was returning from a party with friends when the driver lost control of his vehicle. The car left the A7 and crashed 40 meters below on Quai Gailleton, instantly killing Alann’s best friend and girlfriend. The latter, placed in an artificial coma, underwent several operations. When he woke up, he had lost his sight.
A recovery three months after the accident
The young man, then 27 years old, had just celebrated his title of European breakdance champion. “I started hip-hop at 16, in the west of Lyon,” he says. “Then I professionalized, and in 2015 I joined the competition group of Juliane Bourget, the choreographer of Da Squad. »Alann Biolley performed in public, taught hip-hop at the MJC de Tassin. So, with extraordinary courage, he started dancing again just three months after his accident.
“It was a way out to be able to externalize myself,” he admits. The body’s memory hadn’t forgotten anything: “it was quite natural, the dance is a lot of feeling. All the work I had done was converted into automatisms that came back to me. In fact, that’s when I realized that you could dance without the sight, it relies a lot on balance. “
A message of “love and unity”
A balance he found with the members of Da Squad: his crew joined forces to help him get back on stage. His two choreographers, Juliane Bourget and Kenj’y, accompany him through touch and speech. “We work in tandem with Alann,” explains Juliane Bourget. “Kenj’y is glued to him as if he were his shadow. When Kenj’y moves his arm, Alann holds it to understand the direction of the movement. Since he already knows the technical terms, he understands very well where we want to take him. “The person concerned draws a lot of energy from it:” What is incredible is all the presences around me, I feel them a lot “, he admits.
Their move to France is an incredible talent, the Da Squads prepared it with the desire to share their common history by sublimating it through dance. “It’s really a message of love and unity that we come to transmit to the show,” insists Juliane Bourget. “We put pressure on ourselves to make it a technically impactful passage, not to focus solely on Alann’s handicap. We want to reach people with our art, and with our talent all together. “
