Attack on the red jersey on the Schauinsland? In addition to the support of his teammates, professional cyclist Emanuel Buchmann apparently also has the legs for an attack on today’s king stage of the Deutschland Tour. The shape of the 29-year-old Ravensburger seems to be in good shape before the climb to the 1207-meter-high mountain finish in the Black Forest.

“I would say it’s okay,” said Buchmann. On the second stage on Friday to Marburg he didn’t feel bad. But an increase of eleven kilometers is something completely different.

17 seconds behind the overall leader Alberto Bettiol from Italy, Buchmann, who had to cancel his start in the Tour of Spain that started a week ago after an infection and is instead contesting the home tour, starts the 148.9-kilometer penultimate stage in Freiburg . Instead of at the Vuelta, Buchmann could at least slip into the red jersey of the overall leader at home for the five-day Spain replacement.

Defending champion Nils Politt also believes in the good form of his Bora-hansgrohe teammate. “I think Emu Buchmann has a real chance up towards Schauinsland,” said the man from Cologne. Politt himself starts the stage 3:09 minutes behind and has to limit his hopes to a day’s success in the final stage on Sunday in Stuttgart.
