Germany – bankruptcy wave does not materialize – economy

The feared bankruptcy wave as a result of the Corona crisis did not materialize in the first half of the year. The number of company bankruptcies even fell, by 17.7 percent compared to the same period last year to 7,408. The Federal Statistical Office announced these figures on Friday. State economic aid for companies and the obligation to file for insolvency, which will not apply again until May, are likely to have contributed to the low numbers. The expected claims of the creditors were with 31.8 billion euros, however, almost twice as high as a year earlier with 16.7 billion euros. “This increase is due to the fact that more economically important companies filed for bankruptcy,” the statisticians said.
