German economy: Lower interest rates would help – Economy

Inflation is falling to normal levels and a turnaround in monetary policy is becoming apparent. But that alone won’t help the weakening economy: economists are calling for reforms – and all-day schools for everyone.

Finally some good news: Inflation in Germany has fallen to normal levels. According to preliminary figures, the price increase rate in March was only 2.2 percent. This is the lowest it has been in three years and much better than a year ago, when there was still a seven in front of the decimal point. Some prices have recently fallen quite significantly, such as those for energy. Food also became slightly cheaper in March. On average, however, life is no longer becoming more expensive as quickly as it was recently.
