A cargo ship belonging to the German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd was attacked in the Red Sea. A fire is said to have broken out on board and no crew member was injured. Recently, Houthi rebels from Yemen had repeatedly attacked ships in the region.

A US Defense Department spokesman told AFP the freighter was hit by a missile fired from a region of Yemen controlled by the Houthi militia. According to the shipping company, the freighter had sailed from Piraeus in Greece through the Suez Canal and was on course for Singapore.
