Gérald Darmanin orders a curfew for minors in Pointe-à-Pitre

While traveling in Guadeloupe, the Minister of the Interior, Gérard Darmanin, ordered, Wednesday evening April 17, the establishment for two months of a curfew for minors under 18 years of age in Point-à-Pitre in order to combat an outbreak of delinquency.

“We are very struck by the fact that minors are extremely numerous in delinquency unfortunately, in Guadeloupe in general and in Pointe-à-Pitre in particular”declared Mr. Darmanin who specified that this measure will come into force “from the beginning of next week” and will be effective from 8 p.m. The Minister of the Interior made this announcement after a meeting with the Minister Delegate for Overseas Affairs, Marie Guévenoux, the Prefect, Xavier Lefort, and the Mayor of Point-à-Pitre, Harry Durimel.

Mr. Darmanin, who arrived on site Wednesday evening for a two-day visit, went to meet “police officers and gendarmes who are currently carrying out an operation “Place Net” in Pointe-à-Pitre at my request”, he wrote on the social network.

In recent months, the sub-prefecture of Guadeloupe – it had 14,500 inhabitants in 2020 – has fueled the chronicle of news items. In March, a shopkeeper was killed there during a robbery. Then tourists on a cruise were stabbed by a woman with psychiatric disorders.
