Gérald Darmanin calls for the dissolution of the fundamentalist Catholic organization Civitas

After comments deemed anti-Semitic by an essayist during the summer universities of the fundamentalist Catholic organization, the Minister of the Interior announced to seize the public prosecutor and instruct its dissolution.

“Anti-Semitism has no place in our country.” This Monday, Gérald Darmanin announced to seize the public prosecutor and ask his services “to instruct the dissolution of Civitas”, after “ignominious remarks” made by Pierre Hillard, controversial essayist, during the summer universities of the fundamentalist Catholic organization.

A little earlier in the afternoon, the former rebellious presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon had arrested the Minister of the Interior in reaction to this video relayed on social networks.

“In France in 2023, someone is asking to reconsider the French nationality and citizenship of the Jews decided by the great Revolution of 1789! Anti-Semitism must be punished without weakness. What is Darmanin doing?” he tweeted.

On this video extract, Pierre Hillard, writer and controversial essayist, had declared: “The naturalization of the Jews in September 1791 opens the door to immigration (…) If we restore the laws of Catholicity and we make Catholicism traditional a state religion, perhaps the situation before 1789 should be restored.”
