Lyricist Dieter Schneider dies

He wrote song lyrics for GDR pop stars such as Frank Schöbel and Inka Bause. Dieter Schneider has now died at the age of 86.
The songwriter who became famous during the GDR era Dieter Schneider is dead. The 86-year-old died on Friday in a hospital in the capital from the long-term effects of polio, his family announced. Schneider wrote more than 3,000 song lyrics over the course of his career, including for GDR pop stars such as Frank Schöbel (“Looky, Looky”) and Inka Bause (“Spoilsport”), who was born in Leipzig and appeared nationwide with the RTL dome show “Farmer Looking for a Wife” has made a name for itself.
His family also said that Schneider was, among other things, the television editor of the GDR entertainment program “Ein Kessel Buntes”. For more than six decades, his passion was entertainment music on television and radio. “He was happy to support young artists,” the statement said. The songwriter, who was born in , became part of German-German pop history.
