“Massacre of the Palestinians”: Ankara imposes export restrictions on several goods to Israel, citing the country’s actions in the Gaza Strip.

The Turkish government has restrictions on trade in Israel decided and justified this with the country’s actions in the Gaza Strip. In the future, export restrictions will initially apply to several goods, including steel, aluminum and iron products as well as other building materials, according to a statement from the Turkish Ministry of Trade on Tuesday.

In the statement, the ministry accused Israel of being responsible for a “massacre of the Palestinians.” The restrictions would apply until Israel announces a ceasefire and aid flows unhindered into the Gaza Strip.

According to the UN, all residents of Gaza are affected by high, acute food insecurity, and half of them are even affected by catastrophic food insecurity. Israel has repeatedly been accused of hindering aid deliveries. After a clear warning from the US ally, Israel recently decided to take steps to enable more humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.

The export restrictions that have been decided must now also be understood against the background of the increasing pressure on the Turkish government in its own country. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was accused by large sections of the opposition of double standards because, on the one hand, he was harsh on Israel while maintaining full trade relations with the country.
